Aromatherapy Series: Our Techniques

In this article we talk about the aromatherapy techniques we offer and diffusion rates.

Diffuser:
A diffuser projects vapors of essentials oil into the air. Since essential oils evaporate quickly, there are many different types of diffusers available.

CedarOak uses an ultrasonic diffuser. Ultrasonic diffusers disperse a fine mist of water and oils using electronic frequencies to create vibration. The result is a very quiet machine that fills the room with wonderful aromas.

Lotions:
Essential oils are incorporated into our lotion, cremes, and oils and are massages directly onto the skin. We concentrate massaging a little more on the thinner parts of the skin because the terpines are absorbed better in those areas. These areas include hands, feet, scalp, face, inner arm, and back of the knee and leg.

Roll-on:
We use a thin roll-on specifically for the Migraine Ease add-on. This allows CedarOak to target specific sinus and pressure points that help relieve migraines and headaches. Roll-ons also have a higher dilution (see below) for maximum effect.

Dilution Chart:

Essential oils are very powerful. Except for certain oils, most can be harmful to the skin if directly applied. Therefore, essential oils need to be diluted with a carrier, such as a massage oil, cream, or lotion.

Below is a dilution chart that CedarOak uses. We use a dilution of 2.5% for lotions and diffusers, 5% for roll-ons, and 10% for our upcoming Congestion Comfort modality.
